Tough Questions...

For a child that inherited my struggle with math the kid has a mind that thinks so deeply!! I am so blessed by his empathy. Of course, I am referring to Joe and it was once again one of our early morning talks. It started out with me teasing him about his new alarm clock going off at midnight!!! He of course had no memory of this, but Chris and I sure did.

Then we were talking about school and how strict his teachers have been over the years. We loved his teacher last year, I had heard all this stuff about how she was so strict and this and that. It turned out to be Joe's best year yet...So she is Ryan's teacher this year and things are going great. Anyway...She had this dog she loved named Bailey and as a treat Bailey would come and spend a day with the kids as a reward. Joe and Ryan are both terrified of Dogs. Bailey was old and Joe liked Bailey because Bailey was mellow. Well, we learned that bailey had to be put to sleep over the summer because he was sick and Joe was sad. Out of the blue Joe said "did they just like kill Bailey?" In my mind I think Ohhh No it'd going to be one of those conversations ughh. "What do you mean kill?" he says, "like shoot her or something." "Oh no Joe, when a dog is really sick they can give it medicine that makes it real tired and then it just goes to sleep and dies...it's very peaceful."

Silence....Then he says, "Do they do that to people?" I say, "No, God controls when we are born and when we die. People can tell you how they're feeling, animals can't and so a lot of times when people take their animals to the vet they are already too sick to get better." Joe then says, "don't they cut you open and put stuff inside you when you die?" (okay this is way to deep for 6:45 in the morning) "Sometimes but not always...they didn't with Matthew he was too small." I see Joe's eyes welling with tears.... he says, "but he is not a baby anymore right?" I say, " Joe do you remember what I told you that pastor Rick told me when Matthew died? "Yep, that once he took his last breath on Earth he would be in heaven and be a man....I bet old people become younger in heaven too!" I say, "I bet your right." Joe thinks a while and then replied "Well who created God?" I said "Joe God created the Heavens and the Earth so He has always been here... I know it is hard to understand, but he is timeless."

I am so Thankful for Joe. He truly loves people. He gets it. Sometimes I am so frustrated by my kids selfishness and then I have moments like this that remind me how pure and caring their hearts are.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1)

The hope of eternal life, which God... promised before the beginning of time (Titus 1:2)

To the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. (Jude 1:25)
